[Press Release] Announcement on the Establishment of Subsidiary in India

AWL, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO: Muneharu Kitade, hereinafter referred to as the “Company”), a Hokkaido University-certified startup and the market leader in edge AI camera solutions, is pleased to announce the establishment of subsidiary in Bengaluru, India.

■Background of the Establishment

In February 2020, just before the Pandemic hit the world, AWL members visited Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (hereinafter referred to as “IIT Bombay”), which has produced many top executives of world-class IT companies. The members met Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director of IIT Bombay and initiated discussions for future technical collaboration. In April 2020, the Company announced the welcoming of Dr. Biplab Banerjee, an Assistant Professor of Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and a leading person in the Computer Vision field as an Engineering Adviser. And in October of the same year, the Company started joint research with Centre of Studies in Resources Engineering (CSRE) / Centre for Machine Intelligence and Data Science (C-MInDS), which leads Artificial Intelligence and Data Science fields, and have enjoyed active online technical discussions with the Company’s multinational engineers even under pandemic situation.

In addition to AWL Vietnam, the Company’s first overseas R&D subsidiary established in 2018, AWL AI INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED was established as a second overseas R&D subsidiary in Bengaluru, the city referred to as “Silicon Valley in India” and the heart of the R&D of IT companies and startups from around the world, including Amazon and Google. The office is located in the Center of Excellence IoT & AI (Nasscom CoE), an incubation facility operated by NASSCOM (National Association of Software and Services Companies), an association of more than 3,000 major IT-related companies in India. In Bengaluru, where excellent IT talent gather from all over India, the Company intends to promote the R&D of cutting-edge next-generation technologies while strengthening the recruitment of excellent AI talent.

While actively stimulating each other and deepening cooperation with the diverse members in Japan, the Company aims to create new innovations in the edge AI technology field, build an R&D structure and establish a business foundation in India with a sense of speed, and acquire a position as an edge AI solution company in India.
