AWL (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Muneharu Kitade, hereinafter referred to as “The Company”), the market leader in AI camera solutions, announced the launch of sales of \u201cAWL Lite with COVID-19 Solutions\u201d starting today, in cooperation with Chowa Giken (Head Office: Sapporo City, Hokkaido, President Takuya Nakamura, hereinafter referred to as “Chowa Giken”), which is focused on AI algorithm development and TIL (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President and CEO Kei Fujinami, hereinafter referred to as “TIL”), which is developing technology for an AI voice recorder.<\/p>\n

\u3010The Catalyst for the Initiative\u3011<\/h4>\n

Amid the spreading COVID-19, restriction of entry to avoid \u201c3Cs\u201d at grocery stores, offices, and public institutes, etc., social distancing inside store, enforcement of wearing masks are the major challenge. It is quite difficult to continue to take measures depending on manual efforts for mid- to long-term to avoid overshoot or lockdown, which are spreading in other countries.
\nUnder the circumstance, the three AI ventures, AWL, Chowa Giken, and TIL, originated in Hokkaido University with development sites on campus co-developed COVID-19 solutions which work on AWL\u2019s AI camera solution platform. After introducing to some branches of drugstore chain \u201cSATSUDORA\u201d, a Sapporo (Hokkaido)-based drugstore chain and Proof-of-concept at the entrance of Toppan Koishikawa Building of TOPPAN PRINTING CO., LTD. (Bunkyo Ward, Tokyo), AWL today launched the sales of \u201cAWL Lite with COVID-19 Solutions\u201d. <\/p>\n

AWL Lite with COVID-19 Solutions<\/h4>\n

AWL Lite is a 7-inch, 10-inch or STB (Set Top Box) terminal with AWL\u2019s unique AI engine. The terminal can be used by just placing the device with the embedded SIM inside.
\nBy analyzing videos taken by the embedded camera in the terminal, the AI engine counts number of customers, estimates gender \/ age \/ whether wears mask, along with estimating congestion inside store. The videos used for analysis are discarded, not saved in the terminal. Also, the personal data, etc. will not be generated through the analysis. Furthermore, various features will be enhanced such as measuring social distance \/ density in particular area, detecting alcoholic hand disinfection by the employees \/ customers, and fever screening.<\/p>\n
